El Toyota #7 és líder de les 24h de Le Mans passada una hora de cursa. Darrere l’Audi #2 i #3 arriben seguits pel Toyota #8. A LMP2 lidera l’equip KCMG i a GTE el Ferrari #51.
La sortida fou molt neta i sense cap incident. Quan Fernando Alonso llançava la bandera francesa el Toyota #7 s’escapava des del principi i començava a avançar. Darrere l’altre Toyota passava el Porsche #14 de Jani i els tres Audi el Porsche #20. Més endavant l’Audi #2 s’adelantava a la cacera del proper Porsche, col·locant-se davant de l’Audi #3. Per que fa a la LMP2 el Zytek de Jota Sport es col·locava primer seguit pels dos Ligier, TDS i OAK. A GT, els AF Corse dominaven des del principi seguits pels Corvette, l’Aston Martin #97 i el Porsche #92.
Tot seguit començaven els problemes pels Toyota #8, que al tocar-se amb un doblat a la segona chicane provocava l’aplicació d’Slow Zone. L’incident permetria a l’Audi #2 conduït per Lotterer col·locar-se a la segona plaça mentre el número #1 i #3 mantenien un bonic duel per la cinquena posició.
El Zeod RC es veia obligat a abandonar abans de complir la primera hora de cursa degut a un cop de mala sort. La categoria CDNT, per tant, queda deserta al ser aquest l’únic participant.
Arribaven problemes pel Porsche #14. Aquest es quedava sense potència a la mitja hora de cursa però aviat es resoldrien i podria reincorporar-se a la cursa passada una estona. A punt de complir-se la primera aturada a boxes el Toyota #7 es trobava a la primera posició, seguit dels Audi #2 i #3, que acabava d’avançar el Toyota #8 per fer-se amb l’últim calaix del podi. Darrere, l’Audi #1 es defenia dels atacs del Porsche #20.
Pel que fa a GTE hem pogut gaudir d’una magnífica lluita pel liderat. El Ferrari #51, els dos Corvette i l’Aston Martin #97 es trobaven immersos en una batalla que tindria a Jan Magnussen – pare de Kevin Magnussen, pilot de McLaren a la Fórmula 1 – com a victoriòs i que amb el Corvette #73 es col·locava líder a la categoria GTE.
