Haas F1 Team has expressed renewed optimism regarding its budget for the 2027 season, thanks to ongoing discussions with new sponsors. The team’s director, Ayao Komatsu, stated that positive advancements are being made in the search for financial support to continue pushing the team’s annual budget towards the established limit.
Currently, Haas, which employs just over 400 people, has operated below the budget ceiling since its inception. The American outfit maintains a sponsorship agreement with Gazoo Racing of Toyota, following the contract made with MoneyGram, but seeks to further expand its sponsorship portfolio.
According to rumors, the team is in negotiations with BWT, which is currently the main sponsor of Alpine. This opportunity arises because Alpine will partner with Gucci in the future. This is not new for Haas, as BWT had previously been linked to the team after ending a contract with Aston Martin.
Komatsu previously commented that the scarcity of resources was limiting the team’s growth, including the increase of the workforce and the improvement of technical resources. In recent weeks, he has assured that they are in talks with several options that could bring Haas’s budget closer to the limit of 215 million dollars.
«We are talking with many options; things are progressing. We are optimistic about next year’s budget,» said Komatsu. «This helps tremendously, and I feel satisfied with the progress made so far.»
Despite the rumors about BWT, Komatsu clarified that Haas will not have pink cars. Additionally, he mentioned that they are currently not looking for drivers to compensate for potential budget deficits, allowing the team to focus on selecting drivers based on performance.
Regarding potential new drivers, Ryo Hirakawa, Leonardo Fornaroli, and Rafael Camara have been testing old cars for the team. Komatsu estimated that there are currently five candidates for the 2027 season, including Esteban Ocon and Yuki Tsunoda.
In summary, Haas’s financial situation appears to be improving with active discussions with sponsors, although the team will continue to prioritize the selection of its drivers based on their performance on the track.
