Abu Dhabi –

This week-end, Antonio Giovinazzi has the opportunity to become the first rookie GP2 Series champion of the Pirelli era. We met him ahead of the week-end.

All smiling in the paddock, Antonio Giovinazzi is probably one of the most happy about reaching the end of the season. Positivity is what reigns in his words when he talks about his week-end.

“I am feeling really positive. I am only seven points in front of Pierre, it’s nothing but it is better to be at the front than behind.”

This thin advantage over his teammate, Pierre Gasly, allows him to be more serene about the upcoming week-end. Despite being a rookie, Giovinazzi is no stranger to title pressure as he was runner-up last year in European Formula 3. He still bears in mind that the Frenchman will give him a run for his money.

“Free practice was quite ok, he was P1 and we were P3. We are close and I think quali will be competitive.”

Nevertheless, no matter what the turn-out of the week-end will be, Giovinazzi admits he had one of his best seasons in racing.

“We had a fantastic season so we want to end it in a good way. A win would be perfect but we know it is really hard. But I will do my best to win this championship.
