Adrian Newey is centerstage in fresh reports emerging from multiple portals which signals an exit from his F1 role at Red Bull Racing.
It is a never-ending drama at Red Bull since the start of the year 2024. The first rumble was related to Christian Horner and the in-team scandal involving a female employee. Even though the investigation is done and dusted, the after-effects of it continues.
While it is believed that the former employee is pressing on with the case, the work on track and at Red Bull carries on where the team and Max Verstappen leads the championship comfortably. But it is not with regular speculations about people at the team.
The supposed ‘power struggle’ continues on behind the scenes, while at the forefront everyone is keeping a poker face. Despite having a contract until 2028, the news around Verstappen exiting continues to swirl as well, with huge interest from Mercedes.
Toto Wolff is leaving nothing behind to lure him, while Horner denies of it and Verstappen is keeping his ‘I have a contract’ statement. Amid this, stories around Helmut Marko has continued on as well, with the Austrian too was rumoured to leave the team.
Joining him now is Newey. The architect of several championships for Red Bull is now facing the headlines from across the globe. It was kicked-off via German portal Auto Motor und Sport, who conveyed that the F1 veteran indicated his desires to senior figures at the team.
His contract ends in 2025, but he seemingly wishes to leave before the tenure. But there was no indication of him joining a rival F1 team beyond that. Since the news from AMuS, several leading media outlets went through their sources to report of the same.
The likes of BBC Sport, Motorsport Network, Sky Sports, The Race, Planet Network and co, reported of the same, but few carried a generic quote from Red Bull. “Adrian is contracted until at least the end of 2025 and we are unaware of him joining any other team,” it stated.
Dutch portal De Telgraaf further expanded into the matter in their story citing Newey’s decreased hold into the matters at Red Bull, especially with the designing of the current cars where Pierre Wache has undertaken most of the heavy work with his team.
Ever since joining Red Bull in 2006, Newey has been a stronghold aiding them to win several F1 championships, first with Sebastian Vettel and now with Verstappen. His position in the team has never been questioned despite outside requests to lure him out.
Currently, he has been heavily linked with both Ferrari and Aston Martin. The former has roped in Lewis Hamilton from 2025, which becomes an interesting prospect for the legendary F1 outfit to not just have a champion driver but a champion designer too.
As for the latter, Lawrence Stroll’s ambitions has led them to offer him a big role to aide their champion driver Fernando Alonso, who only just signed an extension. The other notion for Newey is retirement especially after decades of regular work.
The upcoming Miami GP weekend will see another set of questions for Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and even Aston Martin on the topic of Newey. Anything comes, it will only be the Milton Keynes-based team and the Brit himself who will spill it eventually.
