Pilot Regan Smith will return to the NASCAR truck series after five years. His comeback will be aboard the No. 25 RAM 1500 from Kaulig Racing in two scheduled races: on September 17 at Bristol Motor Speedway and on October 9 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Smith, who was currently working as a commentator, discovered his participation in the New Hampshire Truck race during a broadcast, where even he himself did not know he would also compete in Charlotte.

With a total of 468 initiations in the three national NASCAR divisions, Smith has not competed since the 2019 season. He was the runner-up in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2014 and has achieved six victories in the secondary circuit. In addition, he won the prestigious Southern 500 in 2011 at Darlington.

Despite his experience, Smith has never won a truck race; in 36 initiations in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, he has accumulated a top 5 and seven top 10 finishes, with his best ranking in fifth position.

Kaulig Racing has had several drivers in their ‘free-agent’ truck during their first season with RAM. Notable names such as Tony Stewart, Travis Pastrana, and AJ Allmendinger have been part of this program, with a best result of a sixth place achieved by Allmendinger at Watkins Glen.
