Aston Martin, Honda’s engine partner, has announced a leadership change in its Formula 1 engine program. From October 1, the current leader of engine development, Tetsushi Kakuda, will be replaced by his assistant, Yoichiro Fukao.

The decision by Honda Racing Corporation is presented as a planned transition, aiming to accelerate engine development and ensure the transfer of technical expertise to new generations of engineers. In an official statement, Honda stated that this change is part of a long-term strategy ahead of the new regulations that will come into force in 2027.

After a complicated start to the 2026 season, marked by performance and reliability issues, Honda has requested additional help for engine development. Additionally, during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend, there were discussions between FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Aston Martin executives Lawrence Stroll and Fernando Alonso to discuss potential additional support measures.

Honda hopes that this leadership change will establish a more robust and competitively advanced development framework that can face the new challenges posed by future regulations.
