Scuderia Ferrari is continuing its help towards Italian health officials as it prepares valves and fittings for protective masks at F1 base Maranello.

Work at Modena and Maranello is resuming but on the F1 side, it is limited due to the extended shutdown by the FIA. And so Ferrari workers, meanwhile, are doing their bit to help the Italian health officials in their fight against COVID-19.

In a video released by Ferrari, they showcase the work being done where they are making respirator valves and fittings for the protective masks for health workers treating COVID-19. They are using machines where the car prototypes are built.

Ferrari notes that the logistics is being handled by Nuovamacut Gruppo TeamSystem. The team supplies the raw product to Solid Energy, who then transforms the Decathlon snorkels masks into an aide, which will protect health workers treating patients.

Here’s the full statement from Ferrari and a video:

Ferrari has started to produce respirator valves and fittings for protective masks at its Maranello plant as one of its initiatives in support of health workers treating coronavirus patients. The department where car prototypes are usually built is producing these thermoplastic components using additive manufacturing technology.

Some valves have been developed by Mares, a diving equipment manufacturer, tailor-made to fit their masks so as to create emergency masks to assist patients suffering from respiratory failure. The logistics of the project were handled by Nuovamacut Gruppo TeamSystem, who also helped with the research of the different companies who contributed to the success of the project.

Other fittings are being supplied to Solid Energy, who will use them to transform Decathlon snorkel masks into aids to protect healthcare workers exposed to infection. In the next few days, Ferrari plans to manufacture several hundred items of equipment that are already being distributed by some of the companies involved, with the coordination of the Italian Civil Protection, to various Italian hospitals including those in Bergamo, Genoa, Modena, and Sassuolo as well as to health workers in the town of Medicina, near Bologna.

While Ferrari helps the Italian health officials, the UK-based F1 teams are doing their bit to help the British Government under Project Pitlane. Earlier, McLaren noted that their Penlon Prima ESO2 device was approved and an order already placed to produce it.
