Romain Grosjean has been elected as the driver of the day of the 2016 Formula One Rolex Australian Grand Prix. The Frenchman is the first driver to be elected as such.

In order to communicate with the fans and to engage them more into the sport, the official Formula One website created a poll to decide after which race the best driver of the latter.

Earlier in the day, the first estimations revealed Rio Haryanto’s stellar score in the poll, which is easily explained by the devotion of the numerous Indonesian fans Haryanto has. This and the fact Daniil Kvyat, who could not start the race, was ranked 13rd of the poll asks the question of the veracity of the poll and the actual point.

Romain Grosjean has, however, been logically chosen Driver of the day after his sixth place in the Grand Prix for the first ever race of Haas F1 Team. The website mentioned that “in the interests of fairness, multiple votes identified as originating from the same source were not counted”, which could explain why Rio Haryanto, who retired from the race, was not elected.
