The Formula 1 world champion, Max Verstappen, will face a new challenge today, September 16, at Silverstone. In this event called Max vs 100, he will compete against 100 kart drivers, including athletes, celebrities, content creators, and enthusiasts.

Verstappen will start the race from behind a total of 101 karts and will have 30 laps at his disposal, with a limit of 55 to 75 minutes, to surpass his rivals and achieve victory. The starting grid for amateurs will be defined through qualifying at 2:20 pm (local time), where each participant will have one fast lap.

The competition will take place on a track designed specifically for the event. Every time Verstappen overtakes a driver, that driver will be eliminated. However, amateur drivers will be able to use a ‘fast lap’ in the first minutes of the race, allowing them to take a shortcut to distance themselves from the champion. In the last 15 laps, this option will be reserved only for Verstappen.

All karts participating in the competition are identical and weigh 85 kg, ensuring equality among the drivers. Additionally, Verstappen will be able to communicate with his rivals through a radio system.

The broadcast of Max vs 100 can be followed live on ESPN via Disney+, Red Bull’s commercial partner. The race will start at 6:00 pm, with a pre-show beginning at 5:00 pm. The coverage will be presented by Mo Gilligan, who promises an atmosphere reminiscent of Mario Kart video games, with game-inspired graphics and drone aerial shots.

Among the participants are personalities such as Zac Alsop, Jack McDermott (known as Pieface), the winner of Love Island 2019, Amber Gill, and ultramarathoner Arda Saatci.
