The Mercedes-AMG driver, Jules Gounon, has received good news after the accident he suffered during the DTM race at Sachsenring. Medical examinations carried out in Andorra have confirmed that he has only sustained a minor injury to his left hand.
Gounon, who was hit by the Aston Martin of Nicki Thiim, complained of pain in his hand after the accident, but the results of the X-rays and MRI show no fractures, just bone bruises and some discomfort.
The 31-year-old driver commented via Instagram that he has been advised to rest and take it easy for a few days, although he admitted it won’t be easy for him. ‘We will see that everything goes well and I will be ready,’ he wrote in his post.
Absent from the Hockenheim test
Despite the positive news, Gounon will not participate in the official DTM test scheduled in Hockenheim on September 23. This absence is not due to his injury, but to his preparation for the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC) event in Japan, from September 25 to 27.
His team, Winward, is planning to participate in the Hockenheim test with both of their cars, as Gounon and his teammate, Engel, fight for a title against Thomas Preining from Manthey-Porsche.
Substitute on the way
It has not yet been confirmed who will replace Gounon in Hockenheim, but it is expected to be one of the performance drivers from the Mercedes-AMG team. One logical candidate could be Luca Stolz, a former DTM driver, who has no commitments this weekend.
Gounon, son of former Formula 1 driver Jean-Marc Gounon, has been recently competing as a substitute in the Mercedes-AMG Team 2 Seas. Despite the difficulties, he is preparing to return to competition at the WTCE in Zandvoort next weekend.
