Exciting young Danish talent Lasse Sorensen is today, Thursday, 15th January, confirmed as Manor MP Motorsport’s second signing for its Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 team – the younger brother of GP2 Series race winner Marco Sorensen the latest to join the squad’s impressive 2015 line-up.

Press Release

Enjoying key backing from Saxo Bank, DASU and Team Denmark, the rapid 18-year-old will make his 2.0-litre Formula Renault debut off the back of winning the French F4 Championship last year during a truly dominant campaign.

Aspiring to follow a similar career path to the one carved out by his older sibling, Sorensen Jnr’s deal with Manor MP comes hot on the heels of last week’s announcement regarding 2014 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Vice-Champion Dennis Olsen also joining the Anglo-Dutch outfit.

“Everyone at the team is really excited ahead of the new season, with Lasse joining Dennis in our Eurocup squad we’re all feeling confident of a fantastic year”, commented Sander Dorsman, team principal, “We’ve obviously got a good relationship with the Sorensen family with Marco racing in GP2 with us last year, so it’s fantastic to see Lasse make his Eurocup debut as a Manor MP driver.

“Our plan for Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 this year is to run at least three cars, and we’re working hard to make it a capacity four car team, so it’s perfect for us to already have two such incredibly talented young drivers confirmed.”

Starting out in karting in 2004, Sorensen Jnr progressed through the KF3 and KF2 ranks and was runner-up in the North European KF3 Trophy in 2011. Graduating into Formula Ford car racing in 2012, he finished fifth overall in the domestic Danish championship with one victory and a total of seven podiums. He was also a race winner in the Dutch Formula Ford Championship.

Focusing on Formula Ford Denmark in 2013, Sorensen secured the Vice-Champion’s position with eight wins and 11 other podiums from 23 races contested. Continuing his great development, the youngster sealed the French F4 title in his first season with eight victories and nine other podiums.

“I’m feeling very confident for my first season in Eurocup [Formula Renault 2.0]”, said the Dane, “I won French F4 last year and my aim now is to win Formula Renault, I actually think it’s possible to try and win the championship in the first year.

“Manor MP Motorsport is a great team, there’s a really good atmosphere which I like very much and the balance and set-up of the car is just how I like it. I think we can do a really good job together this year, my goal right now is to go as high as I can in formula racing – the focus is to try and get to F1.”

Manor MP’s Sarah Shaw added: “We’ve got very high hopes for Lasse this season, he really was the class of the field in French F4 last year. Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 is a massive challenge for any driver, but Lasse definitely has the ability to become a real contender. With a top quality driver like Dennis [Olsen] to learn from and use as a benchmark too, it should be a terrific year.”

Motorland Aragon in Spain will host the opening two rounds of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season on 25th/26th April with the 14 race season set to conclude on 17th/18th October at Jerez.
