The Mercedes-AMG driver, Jules Gounon, has received hopeful news after his accident during the DTM race at Sachsenring. Tests conducted at his home in Andorra have confirmed that he only suffers a minor injury to his left hand.

Gounon had a significant impact when he collided with Nicki Thiim‘s Aston Martin. Initially, he was treated at the circuit medical center, where pain in his wrist was detected. Subsequently, an X-ray and an MRI showed that there are no fractures, only bruises and minor injuries.

In an Instagram message, the 31-year-old driver expressed, ‘Good news: nothing broken, just some bone bruises.’ Despite the good news, he has been advised to take a few days off to avoid complications.

Absence from Hockenheim test

Gounon will not participate in the official DTM test to be held at Hockenheimring on September 23. This decision is not due to his injury but to an immediate trip to Japan to compete in the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC) event, which will take place from September 25 to 27.

His team, Winward, will continue with two vehicles in the test as they fight for the title against Manthey-Porsche driver Thomas Preining.

Provisional Substitute?

Currently, Mercedes-AMG is considering who will replace Gounon during his absence. A probable candidate is former DTM driver Luca Stolz, who may be available. Stolz, who has competed in the series until the end of 2024 and has achieved three victories, has no immediate commitments preventing him from participating.

Gounon, son of well-known Formula 1 driver Jean-Marc Gounon, will join the WEC competition behind the wheel of an Alpine Hypercar on his return to the Japanese circuit.
