The Mercedes-AMG driver, Jules Gounon, has received positive news after the accident during the DTM race at the Sachsenring. The tests conducted in his home country, Andorra, have confirmed that he only suffers from a minor injury to his left hand.
After being assessed at the Sachsenring Medical Center, Gounon was able to travel back to Andorra, where he received a more detailed diagnosis that included an X-ray and an MRI. As he mentioned in an Instagram post: ‘Good news: there are no fractures, just some bone bruises and minor damage.’
The driver, who was hit by Nicki Thiim‘s vehicle, experienced intense pain due to the force of the accident, which required him to wear a bandage. Additionally, he has been advised to rest over the next few days to allow his hand to recover.
Absence at the Hockenheim race
Despite his recovery, Gounon will not participate in the official DTM event taking place in Hockenheim on September 23. This decision is not due to his injury, but rather to a scheduled trip to Japan for the next World Endurance Championship (WEC) race, which will be held between September 25 and 27.
Unfortunately, his absence in Hockenheim opens the door to a possible substitute. According to sources from the Mercedes-AMG team, it has not yet been decided who will replace him. One of the most viable candidates is Luca Stolz, a former DTM driver with no commitments for that date.
Gounon has expressed his intention to return to competition for the Fuji race, thus confirming his presence at the next WEC event with his Alpine Hypercar.
