Honda, partner of Aston Martin, has announced a change in the direction of its Formula 1 engine program, aiming to accelerate the development of its power unit. Starting from October 1, Yoichiro Fukao will take over from Tetsushi Kakuda as the project leader.

The Japanese company has explained that this restructuring is part of a ‘planned transition’ and aims to boost the technical development of the engines, especially in response to a challenging season start for the new era of 2026 regulations. Honda needs additional help to continue advancing.

In an official statement, Honda emphasized its commitment to training the next generation of engineers, stating that the new leadership is designed to ensure a smooth transfer of technical expertise. ‘With the regulatory changes expected for 2027, we want to establish a robust development framework that allows us to provide a highly competitive engine,’ the note adds.

After a difficult season, Honda received additional support for its engine in May, in addition to the original ADUO system. Recently, discussions have taken place with the FIA and key figures from Aston Martin about possible improvements. This decision seeks to restore the brand’s competitiveness in an increasingly demanding environment.
