Romain Grosjean, Formula 1 commentator and former Haas driver, has publicly apologized to McLaren and its director, Zak Brown, for erroneous comments made during the coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix.
During his presence at the event in Madrid, Grosjean severely criticized some statements by Brown that, according to him, would have harmed Oscar Piastri‘s morale. His words, misinterpreted, became a subject of debate on social media.
After qualifying, Grosjean said: ‘A statement from Zak Brown about Lando Norris‘ lap time destroyed Piastri as if it were with scissors and a saw.’ He added that the words could have negatively affected Piastri after his performance.
However, Grosjean made a mistake, as Brown had not made the comments he attributed to him. In fact, Brown had praised both drivers, highlighting Norris’s good form while acknowledging Piastri as a valuable competitor.
In light of the repercussions of his comments, the Frenchman chose to apologize through his social media, acknowledging the confusion. ‘I want to apologize for my misinterpretation of Zak’s words. I know how vital it is for McLaren to maintain the integrity of its drivers,’ he stated.
Grosjean concluded his statement hoping that both Norris and Piastri have new opportunities to fight for victory in the upcoming Grand Prix of Baku.
