Freddie Slater, who finished as runner-up in Formula 3, has confirmed his promotion to Formula 2 with the Invicta Racing team for the 2027 season. This decision comes after a successful campaign at Trident, where Slater showcased his potential.
Slater, who is the champion of the Italian F4 and the Eurocircuit Regional Formula, was brought into Audi’s driver development program in 2026. The British driver achieved four consecutive podiums during the season, even leading the championship, although he was eventually surpassed by competitor Ugo Ugochukwu from Campos.
Although he did not win the F3 title, Slater stood out as the best rookie of the season with eight podiums, including one victory in Hungary, and was optimistic about his new stage in Formula 2. ‘I am very excited to make the jump to Formula 2 with Invicta Racing next year. I learned a lot in Formula 3 this season and have evolved as a driver,’ Slater commented.
Invicta Racing has a notable history in the category, with several drivers achieving success after moving up from Trident, such as Gabriel Bortoleto and Leonardo Fornaroli, who were champions in their respective debut seasons. Slater will face the challenge of following in the footsteps of these successful drivers as he prepares for his new adventure.
Allan McNish, director of Audi’s driver development program, expressed his satisfaction with the driver’s decision: ‘The step to Formula 2 is a natural next step for Freddie and a key phase of his development as a driver. We are very proud of his achievements this season and are convinced that Invicta Racing is the ideal environment for him.’
