British racing driver Frank Bird continues to Fortec Motorsports to compete in the 2017 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship.

The 17-year-old enters the European series after a maiden single-seater season in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford where he achieved a trio of tenth place finishes as his best results with Daventry based #TeamFortec.

Bird made his Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 debut as a wildcard entry in the season finale at the Portuguese Estoril Circuit last October following a test in the 2.0-litre Formula Renault machine at Monza earlier in 2016.

Frank Bird, driver, Fortec Motorsports Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 team

“I am so happy to be with Fortec Motorsports for the up and coming Eurocup season. I know the season is going to be tough, but I will have a great team behind me and that gives me great confidence – I can’t wait for the season to start! Massive thanks to Wix filters, Frank Bird Poultry and Be Wiser for their support for the season ahead.”

Martin Young, Head of Formula Renault 2.0 Program, Fortec Motorsports

“We are very happy to have Frank as a member of our driver development programme and the move to Eurocup is exactly where he should be in his racing career.  He only spent one year competing in Ginetta Juniors in 2015 and hadn’t competed in karts previously, so he was a single-seater rookie in British F4. The target for this season is constant improvement and to get him amongst the front runners of the Eurocup grid. It is an exciting transition for Frank, the move to European racing, and we are looking forward to working together to achieve our goals.”

2017 shall be the 27th Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season organized by Renault Sport and the second time the championship has featured as the main category of the World Series by Renault. The series will visit ten circuits around the Europe, including the jewel in the Formula One crown, Monaco.
