Lando Norris was fastest in FP1 of F1 Spanish GP as he headed Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, to start the final weekend in the triple-header.

It was a steady run in FP1 of F1 Spanish GP at Barcelona despite the new front wing regulations which was brought in to lower the flexing of the front wings. It didn’t change the pecking order by whole lot on the face of it, even though things will only be clear in qualifying and the race.

It was McLaren’s Lando Norris on the top in FP1 of F1 Spanish GP with a 1m13.718s lap ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. The Brit led teammate Charles Leclerc, with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri only managing fifth on a circuit which doesn’t suit him as much.

Following on from a double points weekend in Monaco, Visa Cash App RB’s Liam Lawson put in a good lap to be sixth with teammate Isack Hadjar in eighth, who had issues early on with his helmet. Haas’ Oliver Bearman slotted in between in seventh in a good show from his end.

Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda was slightly off in ninth from Alpine’s Pierre Gasly in the Top 10. Mercedes’ George Russell was 11th after setting his best lap on the medium tyre as opposed to soft. The pair of Aston Martin of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

The Spaniard complained about issues on his car, which ended five minutes before the end of running. Sauber’s Ncio Hulkenberg was 14th, where teammate Gabriel Bortoleto was 16th. The F1 team not only has a special livery for the weekend, but also a fair amount of updates too.

Williams’ Carlos Sainz was 15th after starting his session a bit later than others. He also had his best time set on the medium tyre like Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli in 18th and Williams’ Victor Martins in 19th – the Frenchman completed a FP1 programme in place of Alexander Albon.

It was same for Haas’ Ryo Hirakawa, who replaced Esteban Ocon for the session. The Japanese had an early gravel run at Turn 10 after outbraking himself. He managed to bring the car back to continue on. Williams’ Franco Colpainto rounded out the 20 runners in F1 Monaco GP.

There was certain impeding-like situation during the session, but nothing to harm anyone hugely. In terms of the PU elements, Colapinto took his fourth and final ICE before penalty kicks-in on his side.
