The Sky Sports Formula 1 commentator, David Croft, has praised the determination of the new Cadillac team to tackle its reliability issues and not use its rookie status as an excuse, after a challenging weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Cadillac, which entered the F1 grid as the eleventh team in 2026, has come in with modest expectations, seeking long-term stability rather than immediate results. With Ferrari engines, the team features a lineup of experienced drivers, including Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, who have felt the pressure of recent events.
The first half of the season has been challenging, with numerous reliability issues becoming evident once again in Hungary, where both drivers had to retire due to brake problems.
During a season recap on the Sky Sports F1 Show, host Craig Slater suggested that the F1 community was giving Cadillac some leeway for its first year. However, Croft interjected and clarified that the team is not willing to grant itself such indulgence.
“They can receive all the leeway they want, but personally, they do not consider it necessary, and I find that impressive,” Croft stated. “I’ve spoken with some members of the Cadillac team, and they were disappointed by what happened with Bottas’ brakes in Budapest. They thought they had resolved the issue, but reality shows they still have work to do to fix it.”
The commentator concluded on an optimistic note, emphasizing the team’s need to resolve its issues to face other demanding circuits approaching in the calendar, such as Singapore and Malaysia.
