Red Bull and AlphaTauri F1 reserve Sergio Sette Camara has been roped by GEOX Dragon to replace Brendon Hartley for rest of FIA Formula E Championship season.

Formula E will re-start and end their 2019/20 campaign with three rounds in Berlin on three different layouts as revealed on Tuesday. Teams like Audi, NIO and Mahindra Racing already announced changes to its line-up from what they started out.

Joining the list is GEOX Dragon, who confirmed the reports of Hartley not continuing with them. The Kiwi joined the Formula E team at the start of 2019/20 season but had a difficult tenure so far to be 20th with two points, with teammate Nico Mueller yet to score.

He took part in Formula E Race At Home Challenge for GEOX Dragon but stories of him leaving emerged then after. The reason of an early partition is unknown but one could be that Hartley wishes to focus on his FIA WEC campaign with Toyota.

Hartley will be replaced by Red Bull and AlphaTauri reserve Camara, who also has a deal with B-Max Racing Honda to compete in Super Formula. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the chances of reserve driver competing has increased.

Although, the first three F1 rounds worked up fine but Camara is aware of the one clash on August 8-9 weekend with the 70th Anniversary race at Silverstone. “The team and I had really strong chemistry in the Marrakech Rookie Test,” said the Brazilian.

“We executed the program, and performed well, finishing the day P2. I am delighted to share the news that I will work with them again, this time in a race situation, which makes it even more special. I want to thank Jay Penske and every member of Geox Dragon Racing for giving me this opportunity.”

At the same time, team boss Jay Penske added: “I have been very impressed with Sergio on track in Marrakesh, and in his work in the simulator with our engineers to continue to push the development of the PENSKE EV-4 package.

“I look forward to seeing him on track in Berlin, and I fully expect him to challenge for points in his first races with the Team.” The team added that Joel Eriksson will remain as standby if either Camara and or Mueller are unable to compete.
