Paolo de Conto wins the final heat of the KZ2 WSK Super Masters Series in La Conca. The Italian retaliated after a tough start, where famous Tony Kart team seemed to take control of the situation.
The start of the race was straigh forward for Tony Kart Racing. Both Marc Ardigò and Simo Puhakka went 1-2 after only two laps, and they seemed the drivers to beat in the race. De Conto went from pole position to third, but he did not give up.
Puhakka overtook his team-mate on lap four, but de Conto was still after the Tony Kart’s drivers. The Italian also had help from Patrik Hajek, who was fourth at that moment. De Conto, at the end of the lap, overtook Ardigò with a little bit of contact.
On lap nine, de Conto tried to overtake Puhakka. Another contact and another position gained for the CRG driver, and this time was for the lead of the race. Ardigò, Puhakka’s team-mate, also overtook Puhakka and the Tony Kart’s Italian fell to thirs place.
The winner was already decided by that point, with de Conto opening a wonderful gap that served him the victory with little effort. Ardigò and Puhakka battled for second, and the later went for an overtake on his team-mate. The result was not the expected, and Puhakka spun down to ninth.
De Conto won by more than a second over Ardigò. The third step of the podium was for Patrik Hajek, who fought with Bas Lammers. The top-5 was completed by the mentioned Lammers and Tom Leuillet, who started eight and recovered three places from the start.
This results serves de Conto to open a bigger gap in the standings. His rival Alex Irlando finished seventh in the race, and lost the lead of the series to his fellow countryman. Next stop, Sarno next March 27-28.
