Jorge Martin dominated MotoGP qualifying with San Marino GP pole from Marco Bezzecchi, as Francesco Bagnaia was third.
Q1:
The first part in MotoGP qualifying in San Marino GP started off with a crash for GASGAS Tech 3’s Pol Espargaro as he was forced to switch to the second bike. RNF Aprilia’s Miguel Oliveira led the way initially from Honda’s Stefan Bradl in a wildcard run.
Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo on their tail to find a place in Q2. The second run for the riders also saw yellow flag moment when Espargaro had a second fall on his second bike. His brother Aleix Espargaro went quickest in the closing stages in his Aprilia.
But Oliveira came back with a 1m31.272s lap to make it into Q2 along with A Espargaro in second. Quartararo came close in third to be 13th on the grid, with Ducati’s Michele Pirro 14th while substituting for the injured Enea Bastianini.
Bradl was 15th from Pramac Ducati’s Johann Zarco who had a wide moment on his quick lap, as he led Tech 3’s Augusto Fernandez, KTM’s Jack Miller, Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli and LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami in the Top 20.
Gresini Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio slotted in 21st from Honda’s Joan Mir and Tech 3’s Espargaro as LCR’s substitute Takumi Takahashi was not allowed to take part in MotoGP qualifying after he didn’t meet the required lap time to make the cut.
Q2:
The second part in MotoGP qualifying in San Marino GP saw Pramac’ Jorge Martin on top with a 1m30.832s lap after the first run ahead of VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi as Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia was third, carrying an injured leg.
KTM’s Brad Binder was fourth from Aprilia’s Espargaro coming through Q1 ahead of another Q1 runner RNF’s Oliveira in the second row. The second run was demolishing time for Martin when he went quickest by 1m30.390s lap where he bettered his time by miles.
The lap from Martin was untouchable to secure MotoGP pole in San Marina GP by 0.397s gap to Bezzecchi who upped his pace too but couldn’t get close to the Spaniard. Bagnaia improved as well but could only manage third, a week after the horror crash.
Aprilia’s Maverick Vinales slotted in fourth after a late push as KTM wildcard runner Dani Pedrosa beat both the regulars to be fifth. The other Aprilia of Espargaro was sixth from KTM’s Binder with VR46’s Luca Marini in eighth.
Coming through Q1, Oliveira could only manage 10th with Gresini’s Alex Marquez in 11th from the other RNF of Raul Fernandez in the Top 10.
