McLaren Racing has announced that Swiss driver Gregoire Saucy will join the official team of the MCL-HY Hypercar for its debut in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027.

Saucy, who began his career in sports cars aboard an Oreca LMP2 with United Autosports in the European Le Mans Series and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has been with the British team for several years. Initially, he focused on the development of the 720S in the LMGT3 category and later integrated into the setup of the Dallara chassis for the LMDh.

In fact, the Swiss driver has been behind the wheel of McLaren’s hybrid prototype since its first appearance at Varano de’ Melegari, where he shared the car with drivers such as Mikkel Jensen and other team drivers, including Laurens Vanthoor, Leonardo Fornaroli, and Alex Lynn.

The last name expected to complete the lineup is Malthe Jakobsen, who is leaving Peugeot at the end of this weekend’s competition in Monza.

Saucy has expressed his excitement for this opportunity: “I am very excited to receive this news. When I joined the McLaren Hypercar team for the development period, I hoped that this could lead me to a full-time competitive seat, although I knew there was a lot of talent in the driver market.”

McLaren Hypercar team director James Barclay highlighted the value of McLaren’s driver development program, emphasizing Saucy’s dedication and continuous improvement throughout the MCL-HY testing program.

With this promotion, Saucy joins a list of outstanding drivers who have proven their skills and achieved significant success, as demonstrated by the recent title in 2026 ELMS, which he won driving for United Autosports with Ben Hanley and Griffin Peebles.
