Layne Riggs has achieved an impressive victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series after an exciting finish in Nashville. Despite dominating much of the race, Riggs had to face an intense duel with Rajah Caruth in the final laps, culminating in a decisive pass that allowed him to take home a customized guitar as a trophy.
This is Riggs’ eighth victory in his NCTS career, and marks his second consecutive win. In tribute to the legendary Kyle Busch, Riggs bowed at the end of the race, recalling the style of the driver who recently passed.
Riggs commented on his victory: “I didn’t know I had won until I passed him and cleared out. This is how you win a race in NASTRUCK, I put on a show for you guys. I didn’t want to back down, and I don’t know what happened with those tires, but they were really uncontrollable. We made the right adjustments and I got the motivation to push forward and win.”
Caruth, who was driving the truck that Busch was supposed to pilot before his death, finished in a bitter second place. “I was trying to make my truck as wide as possible. Obviously, I was at a disadvantage with the tires, but we had a great race. Not qualifying affected our night, but we had a good performance at the end. I wished to win for all those who were at KBM and for the KB family,” Caruth expressed.
The race started with a three-hour delay due to rain, with Riggs staying in front during the first stage. He won the first stage without any incidents, with a clear lead over the competition. Drivers Kaden Honeycutt and Chandler Smith followed him in the initial standings.
The second stage was marked by incidents that led to several yellow flags. Riggs continued to lead, while his rival Ben Rhodes was penalized for speeding. The race stabilized at the end of the second stage, with Riggs again securing the victory.
The third stage presented a leadership change, with Caruth taking command after a pit stop. However, Riggs, who had lost positions, emerged again with fresher tires and achieved the final decisive pass, overtaking Caruth on the final turn.
The drivers who completed the podium were Chandler Smith in third place, and Ross Chastain and Tyler Ankrum in fourth and fifth, respectively. As the season progresses, Riggs seems to be in top form and ready for more challenges in the championship.
