Kush Maini has achieved a new pole position in the Formula 2 category in his debut in Miami, thereby consolidating his talent in the championship. The Indian driver set an impressive time during qualifying, surpassing Rafael Camara, who finished second.
In the early practice times, Nikola Tsolov from Campos Racing secured the pole for the sprint race with a tenth position, thanks to a promising session start. Tsolov set a time of 1m41.987s, previously surpassed by Colton Herta with a time of 1m41.038s, but the position of the Hitech driver did not last long before Camara took the lead with a lap of 1m40.441s.
After several changes in positions, Maini managed to climb to fourth place with a time of 1m40.162s, and quickly improved to lead the timing sheet with an impressive 1m39.888s. The ART Grand Prix driver demonstrated superior endurance as his competitors attempted to beat his time.
Martinius Stenshorne was one of the drivers who attempted to surpass Maini, placing himself in a hard-fought second position, followed by Alex Dunne. However, with two minutes remaining in the session, Camara pressed again, coming just 0.033s behind Maini.
Tsolov’s final lap, who had a challenging week during practice, led him to achieve the pole for the sprint race, finishing the session in tenth position. He will start the race on Saturday ahead of Laurens van Hoepen and Joshua Duerksen, a new challenge for all of them at the Miami circuit.
