Jenson Button has highlighted that Lewis Hamilton’s return to a good level is mainly due to the adaptation of the new generation of Formula 1 cars to his driving style, rather than simply approaching his new team, Ferrari.

The seven-time champion has regained his performance this season, achieving his first podium as a Ferrari driver with a third place at the Chinese Grand Prix. Later, he consolidated his good form with two second places at the Canadian Grand Prix and at Monaco, culminating with his first victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

After 12 years with Mercedes, Hamilton made the jump to Ferrari at the beginning of the 2025 season. His first season with the Maranello team was complicated, but Button believes that, although his greater adaptation to the team has influenced, the main key lies in the improvements of the current cars.

Button commented during an appearance on the Sky Sports F1 Show: ‘I am sure that during the winter they discussed what worked for him and what didn’t. His relationship with the engineers is very important, especially after his experience with a professional like Bono at Mercedes. It makes everything more difficult, and that takes time. As part of this process, the car also has to play a crucial role.’

He also added that the nature of the new Formula 1 cars corresponds more with what Hamilton used to drive. ‘I think the vehicle fits his style better, which has been fundamental. The current car is more similar to the ones he used to dominate on the track,’ he concluded.
