The Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen, has revealed that he is not at his best shape, just as he prepares to compete at home during the Dutch Grand Prix. In a recent press session, Verstappen admitted that he feels symptoms similar to the flu and that, despite enjoying the warmth of a passionate crowd, his main priority is to rest.
With a successful track record in the last editions of the GP, including three victories, this year’s competition has presented a difficult test for both him and his team. “Yes, I have been better at other times,” the Dutchman said, once again referencing his usual lack of energy.
Fundamental Problems at Zandvoort
In addition to his physical problems, Verstappen and Red Bull have been struggling with the performance of their car on the Zandvoort track. The driver qualified seventh, more than four tenths behind polesitter Lando Norris. “We made a lot of changes to the car after the sprint race, but we haven’t noticed any improvement,” Verstappen added, showing his frustration.
According to the driver, the characteristics of the circuit have made some of the weak points of the RB22 more evident. “The inconsistency of the balancing is one of our biggest problems. It hasn’t been resolved throughout the season, but here it is more noticeable,” Verstappen explained.
Race Expectations
Verstappen does not foresee much improvement in the conditions during Sunday’s race. Recognized for his competitiveness, he believes that seventh place is the best result he can achieve, as long as no chaotic situations, such as rain, arise.
With the regret that this edition of the GP may be his last, Verstappen reaffirmed that he has lived unique moments at his local circuit. “Winning several times at home is very special, although it is a pity that the event disappears from the calendar,” concluded the champion.
