Ferrari confirms the end of its collaboration with Mick Schumacher after four years together as the German becomes a free agent in F1.

As was being reported during the 2022 F1 season, Ferrari has officially confirmed the end of its collaboration with Schumacher being in the academy. Their contract was to run out this year and they have decided not to renew it for 2023 and beyond.

Schumacher joined the programme in 2019 and during this period he won the F2 title and also made his F1 debut with Haas. The German, though, lost his drive with the American team and is looking at a reserve role for 2023 to get him back in racing.

He also became a reserve driver of the Italian outfit in this period. But the speculation has linked him to a reserve role at Mercedes where Toto Wolff has been open to take him if everything works out, especially since they lost Nyck de Vries from the role.

Here’s the statement:

“Scuderia Ferrari and Mick Schumacher have mutually decided not to extend their collaboration, after working together for four years with Mick having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Mick joined the Ferrari family through the young driver programme in 2019 and, as an FDA driver, competed in Formula 2 for two seasons with the Prema Racing team. He won three races and secured the 2020 championship title.

“The following year, he made his Formula 1 debut with the Haas F1 Team. He raced for the team for two years, starting in 43 races and scoring 12 points, finishing 6th in this year’s Austrian Grand Prix and 8th in the British Grand Prix. In addition, he covered the role of reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari for the 2022 Formula 1 season. Scuderia Ferrari thanks Mick for these four years and the many kilometres covered together, and wishes him all the best for the future.”
