Damson Idris is latest to join the Lewis Hamilton’s produced upcoming F1 movie which also stars Brad Pitt in a titular role.
With Pitt to play a role where he returns to F1 from retirement as mentor and teammate to a youngster, the person who he will coach has been roped in to be Idris. The British-Nigerian has been picked up by the team after undergoing several screen tests.
He was not alone in the process as many trialed for the role. Idris is set to play the teammate role to Pitt in the F1 team. As known Joseph Kosinski is the director of the movie which is being made by Apple Original Films.
The production will see the involvement of Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Hamilton’s Dawn Apollo Films, with Ehren Kruger is writing the screenplay. The hiring process is ongoing with filming to start later in the year.
F1 has given its support too where the race weekends will be used for filming as well. “We’re have been going through a process of selecting the character that will be alongside Brad, which is exciting,” said Hamilton earlier. “Basically that’s the process of watching [the auditions]. We have recordings of them doing certain scenes and we got through it.
“I’ve have sat in the office with Jerry and Joe and Brad, and we’ve been watching them and kind of given our inputs and what we think. I want to make the movie, in terms of like having diversity and representation, I want it to be as Formula 1 should be in the future – or should be now, but will be in the future.
“I want to see female mechanics. We would love to see a female driver. We haven’t gotten to that point just yet. But why not? We’ve still got the script. We’ve gone through quite a few different iterations of it. We’re still waiting for a new rewrite, and that’s the whole process. But I was doing that throughout Christmas last year.
“It’s exciting. I’m excited to get the next end of the script. I have been talking to Brad about the characters that we have coming,” summed up Hamilton. Apart from this movie, Apple+ is likely working on a documentary on the F1 world champion too with the involvement of Drive to Survive’s Box to Box Films.
