George Russell, Mercedes driver, has declared that he won’t let the lack of a first world title in Formula 1 define his career. With the season in its final stretch, the Brit reflects on the highs and lows of a complicated year.

Russell had started the season as one of the favorites after standing out with Williams and later with Mercedes. However, his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, is about to become the youngest champion in the history of Formula 1 this weekend at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Despite Antonelli’s constant successes, with nine wins this season, Russell has only achieved three victories, although he dominated the opening race in Australia. At the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, he remained optimistic and pointed out that the season cannot be considered a definitive failure.

“I have learned a lot about myself this year,” Russell stated. “The ups and downs we experience in this sport are intense, as everyone cares about what we do. I don’t consider this season can define my career. I still have a good amount of time left to compete at a high level.”

Russell, at 28, referred to rivals like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, who continue to compete at a high performance at older ages. “I have had more years of success than of failures, and no athlete can maintain a high level constantly. I still feel energetic for another 12 or 15 years,” he added.

With the title practically in Antonelli’s hands, Russell remains focused on improving his performance in the season’s final races. He recalled that inconsistency has been one of the major challenges, and he needs to find a balance in his driving performance if he wants to aspire to glory next year.

“Recently at the Azerbaijan GP, we secured pole position and won, but then I ended up in eighth place in the last race. It’s a strange year in which I’ve done good things but haven’t been able to maintain a constant quality,” Russell concluded.
