Australian GP boss Andrew Westacott will not seek another term as head beyond the 2023 F1 race, as Michael Masi gets Karting Australia role.
Having joined the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) in 2006 as General Manager – Operations, Westacott moved up to being Deputy CEO and eventually the CEO in February of 2011. He has been at the helm ever since but will leave beyond the 2023 Australian GP.
In fact, the date of his leaving will be determined later but it will fall between the end of 2023 Australian GP and June 30. In his reign, Westacott has smoothly run both the F1 and MotoGP races despite the big low of COVID-19 in this period.
He will be on the Karting Australia board as they released a new list with the addition of former FIA F1 Race Director Masi and commercial lawyer Melissa Holzberger from January 1 of 2023. They are part of a group consisting of eight people.
Since leaving the FIA, Masi has returned to Australia and took up couple of roles. He was appointed as the Independent Chair of the of the Supercars Commission and then a Member of the South Australian Motorsport Board.
“Michael’s experience in the world of motorsport in Australia and on a world, level is exceptional, and we’re delighted that he has decided to accept the invitation to join the Board,” said Kartin Australia Chairman Kevin Davis.
“Melissa is well versed in the way in which Karting Australia operates and brings great business expertise and adds further experience to our already well credentialled Board of Directors. To have two more highly credentialled people like Michael and Melissa join our Board adds further strength, stability and experience for Karting Australia.
“On behalf of my fellow Directors, Management and Staff, I’d like to thank Nathan for his commitment to the sport during his time as Director and look forward to continuing to have him as a part of our wider karting community for many years to come.”
