AJ Foyt Racing has announced the signing of Dennis Hauger, recently named Rookie of the Year for the 2026 IndyCar season, with a multi-year contract starting in the 2027 season. The young Norwegian driver, 23 years old, will take control of vehicle number 14, a Chevrolet carrying the Homes For Our Troops brand.
Hauger arrived in the United States in 2025, dominating the Indy NXT competition with six wins and capturing the rookie title. His European résumé includes the Italian Formula 4 championship of 2019, the FIA Formula 3 title of 2021, five wins in FIA Formula 2, and a long stint with the Red Bull Junior Team.
Expectations for the future
For the team’s president, Larry Foyt, Hauger’s versatility made him a key target for the team’s long-term program. «Dennis has accomplished a lot for someone who is only 23 years old,» Foyt stated. «Every time he has changed scenery, he has quickly adapted and won. His win as a rookie in Indy NXT caught everyone’s attention, and we have followed his progress during his rookie season in IndyCar.»
Hauger, who competed in his first season in IndyCar with Dale Coyne Racing, has expressed enthusiasm for his new challenge. «I have learned a lot in my first two years racing in America, but there is still so much more to learn and achieve in IndyCar,» he explained. «What fascinates me is the history of this team, but also what we are building towards the future. I want to work hard to see how far we can go.»
A significant debut
Hauger’s public debut with AJ Foyt Racing will take place on October 2 at the GM Defense Valor & Velocity Gala in Warren, Michigan. This event, which will benefit the Medal of Honor Foundation, will also feature vehicle number 14 on display and the presence of representatives from Hendricks Holding Company and Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building adapted houses for severely wounded veterans.
«I am learning more about Homes For Our Troops and what the number 14 car represents. It is much more than a competition, and my first act with the team is connected to this cause, which makes it very special,» Hauger added.
Foyt concluded by stating that the ambition to win is a fundamental driving force for the team. «Dennis wants to win, and we want to win too. That is what drives us.»
Hauger’s signing is the first in a series of announcements that AJ Foyt Racing will make soon regarding its driver lineup for 2027.
