Alex Albon, Formula 1 driver for the Williams team, has shared details of a fun encounter with Max Verstappen during his vacation in Sardinia. The incident took place while Albon was trying to learn how to e-foil, an emerging water sport, during his summer break.
In a recent episode of the team’s official podcast, Team Torque, Albon commented that during his four days of rest in a popular Sardinian destination, he faced the difficulty of balancing on the water. Amid his struggles, he saw an individual passing by at high speed, who turned out to be the world champion, Max Verstappen.
«I was learning how to e-foil. Have you ever tried this sport? While I was struggling to keep my balance, I saw this guy speeding by, sitting on the edge of the e-foil board and it looked like he was floating on the water, as if he were in complete calm,» Albon explained.
After discovering the identity of his track companion, Albon expressed his surprise. «I didn’t know it was him at that moment. I told a friend: ‘Look who this guy is!’ Then, Verstappen commented that he had seen him fall several times while trying to master the e-foil,» he added.
Besides his time in Sardinia, Albon took advantage of his vacation to make a short getaway to South Africa, spend a week in the Dolomites, and a final preparation period in Monaco. The Formula 1 competition has returned after the summer break with a sprint weekend in Zandvoort, where Albon finished in 16th place during the race.
