Sauber Group has confirmed Audi acquiring minority stake in their company as per the original plans revealed last year.
Having announced its entry in F1 as a power unit supplier last year, Audi further chose Sauber Group as their strategic partner for a semi-works team. That would end the spell of the Swiss outfit’s longtime journey with Ferrari at the end of 2025.
But even before their formal entry in F1 as a power unit supplier, the plan always was for Audi to be a part of the journey with Sauber in different capacity, especially on the commercial side. Going in line with that, the German manufacturer has made the move.
Audi has acquired a minority stake into Sauber Group as of January 2023, making them as one of the key partners now. Even though the F1 team is still named as Alfa Romeo but as per the Italian manufacturer, they are likely to exit sometime this year.
“The Sauber Group is pleased to announce that, as per the plans outlined in October last year, Audi acquired a minority stake in the Sauber Group in January 2023. This is an important milestone on the way to Audi’s entry in Formula One, scheduled for 2026, for which the Sauber Group will be the German brand’s strategic partner,” said a small statement from Sauber.
