Amid news of Oscar Piastri joining McLaren for 2023 F1 season, reports have emerged noting of the demands from Daniel Ricciardo’s side.

The summer break came at the right time for F1 teams and drivers as the silly season broke open when Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement. The seat at Aston Martin was surprisingly taken by Fernando Alonso, whose contract is to end this year.

From the words of Otmar Szafnauer, they were as surprised by the news of Alonso where they thought he will stay with them. This forced them to promoted Oscar Piastri, but the Australian clarified that he is not to race for Alpine.

The speculation is linking Piastri to McLaren, where he is expected to take the place of Ricciardo, who has a contract for 2023. The Australian has been under pressure since joining the team where Lando Norris has out-raced him throughout.

As of now, Ricciardo has to be paid out of his contract and as per Speedcafe, the Australian is looking for a price around $21 million. This is most likely to be reduced when the negotiations kick-start and what the F1 race winner does post 2022.

Recent rumours is linking him back to Alpine, who will need an experienced driver alongside Esteban Ocon. Should Ricciardo takes up the option, the price is likely to churn down if a deal is struck for a smooth switch between the two F1 outfits.

As of now, Alpine is looking to seek compensation from Piastri amid situation with Contract Recognition Board where the Australian is likely cleared from the French outfit’s side. But it remains to be how this progresses in the summer break and what comes next.
