The Legacy Motor Club (LMC) has announced a significant change in its leadership structure, promoting Chais Elaison as the new chief mechanic for car number 42, currently driven by John Hunter Nemechek. This decision takes effect immediately, with the goal of leveraging Elaison’s experience to successfully close the 2026 season.

Elaison, who has been working as a strategy manager and performance engineer for the past year, expressed his gratitude to the team for this opportunity. ‘I have learned a lot working with this group throughout the season, and I look forward to applying that experience as we finish up 2026 with John Hunter and start preparing for 2027,’ he commented.

The new chief mechanic of LMC has previous experience with teams such as Hendrick Motorsports and Trackhouse Racing, where he was part of the championship-winning teams in 2016 and 2021. Additionally, he served as interim chief mechanic with Shane van Gisbergen in Kansas last year, where he achieved a top 10 in an oval race.

Elaison replaces Travis Mack, who has left the organization after more than 200 races in the NASCAR Cup, including his work with Trackhouse and Kaulig. Mack played a key role in the team’s success, including Daniel Suarez’s first victory at Sonoma in 2022.

Jimmie Johnson, co-owner of LMC, highlighted the importance of promoting internally and providing growth opportunities to his team. ‘Chais has demonstrated throughout this season that he is ready for this step,’ Johnson stated, expressing optimism about what the new chief mechanic and team number 42 can achieve in the remaining races of this season and in the future.
