Jules Gounon, Mercedes-AMG driver, has received favorable results after being examined for a minor injury to his left hand during the DTM race this past Sunday at Sachsenring. The incident occurred after a collision with Nicki Thiim, the Aston Martin driver.

In an update on his condition via Instagram, Gounon reported on the tests conducted in Andorra, where he confirmed that, despite the discomfort, there are no fractures. ‘I just have some bone bruises and a few minor inconveniences,’ he explained.

The driver, who was forced to wear a splint due to the pain, is committed to resting his hand in the coming days. ‘It will be a challenge for me, as I don’t like to be stopped,’ commented Gounon, 31 years old.

Head to Fuji

Gounon will not participate in the official DTM test taking place at Hockenheimring on September 23rd. His absence is due to a planned trip to Japan for the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC) event, scheduled from September 25th to 27th.

Despite his absence from the test, the Winward team intends to continue with two units during the session. Gounon has expressed optimism for his return to competition at the next race in Fuji.

Substitution pending

It has not yet been confirmed who will drive in place of Gounon during the test at Hockenheim. According to sources close to the team, the most likely substitute could be one of the drivers from the Performance team, with Luca Stolz as a solid candidate.

The son of former Formula 1 driver Jean-Marc Gounon is determined to recover as soon as possible to maintain championship aspirations, while his friend and teammate, Chris Lulham, will also return to competition the following weekend at Zandvoort.
