Red Bull Racing has reiterated that Isack Hadjar’s recovery is going as planned, despite the French driver having to miss the last three Formula 1 races. The team director, Laurent Mekies, has confirmed that there are no reasons for concern regarding his recovery after the accident during practice in the summer.
Hadjar injured his wrist and, therefore, has been replaced by Liam Lawson. He has also had the support of reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda in the Racing Bulls competitions.
Mekies pointed out that Hadjar’s recovery is progressing as expected. He shared an anecdote about his interaction with seven-time MotoGP champion Marc Márquez, who suffered a serious injury in 2020. This conversation has been crucial for Hadjar, who has decided not to rush his return.
After the Spanish Grand Prix race, Mekies stated: «Isack is fine and is currently in good condition. There is nothing to suggest that his recovery is derailing». This has translated into a cautious recovery plan, which includes his assessment within a week.
During this time, the team will decide if Hadjar is ready to return to the simulator, where he will be exposed to realistic competition conditions. «If he feels close to 100%, he will return; if not, his health will be our priority,» added Mekies.
Meanwhile, Lawson will continue preparing for the upcoming races, and he has commented that the last few days have been intense, needing to adjust to the demands of both bikes. Lawson has managed to score 14 points in his last three races, placing ninth in the driver standings, just 12 points behind Hadjar.
