F1 announced its decision to stream this weekend’s Mexico GP on entertainment platform Twitch for free in selected countries.

In a new partnership with Twitch, a ‘leading service and community for multiplayer entertainment’, it will live stream whole of this weekend’s Mexico GP in selected countries. Fans can watch it for free on twitch.tv and Twitch’s mobile app.

The list of countries where fans can watch are Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The deal between F1 and Twitch will also include ‘interactivity and gaming elements’ in the broadcast.

In addition, each session will be “co-streamed” by a select group of prominent personalities, including leading German gaming influencer PietSmiet – but this will only be for fans in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg.

The broadcast will allow the users to predict the performance of the drivers during 10-minute segments of the grand prix, which will then be ranked and displayed according to their accuracy for everyone to view.

Frank Arthofer, Director of Digital and Licensing, F1, said: “We are really excited to be partnering with Twitch to live stream content from the Mexican GP. Audiences in Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden will be able to visit Twitch’s website and app and tune in to all the action from practice, qualifying and the race itself.

“Twitch has incredible reach, a unique creative spin on sports media coverage and an engaged digital audience; they are a perfect partner for us to be working with on this project. At the same time, Farhan Ahmed, Strategic Partnerships Manager, Twitch, added:

“Millions of people tune in to Twitch every day to watch live content and form communities around their shared interests. We’re thrilled to partner with F1 to bring exciting motorracing content to our community in a way that’s unique, shared, and interactive.

“It’s a pleasure to work with a partner who embraces our community experience, creating something truly exciting, enhanced through co-streaming and extensions.” This is another idea for F1 to increase its fan base as well as reach newer audience.
