After a recovery period of almost three months, Johann Zarco has returned to riding a motorcycle. The French rider’s goal is to participate in the upcoming MotoGP event, which will take place next month.
Zarco, who competes with the LCR team, suffered a serious accident during the Catalonia Grand Prix on May 17. Two incidents marked his competition, one of which caused a part of his Ducati to impact his leg, leaving him with a significant injury.
Despite the severity of his injuries, the rider decided not to undergo surgery after doctors concluded that it was unnecessary. Zarco has been working intensively both in the gym and on the bike to boost his recovery, and he recently completed his first laps on a production bike at the Andorra – Pas de la Casa Circuit.
Testing possibilities
Following the injuries suffered by riders like Jorge Martín, a regulatory change in MotoGP allows testing for those who have endured long periods of absence. Zarco meets the conditions to participate in this test, which will take place at authorized circuits, considering that Honda has returned to the lowest concession category.
With an eye on the upcoming GP of Aragón, which will take place from August 28 to 30, his presence on the track will depend on the approval of the doctors. Although his desire is to compete as soon as possible, specialists have recommended waiting until the GP of San Marino, scheduled from September 10 to 13.
