Max Verstappen talks about the development work on RB20 and what he has done over the winter to prepare for F1 2024.
Having dominated in 2023, question remains as to what Red Bull can do in F1 2024 to topple themselves and remain ahead. Even with the car they had last year, they have still managed to find new things with the RB20 as they launched in Milton Keynes.
Verstappen was surprised by the aggressive approach from Red Bull when he saw the drawings in Abu Dhabi last year. He didn’t know what step the team can take after the dominance in 2023, but they managed to courtesy of the team of Adrian Newey.
“I’m quite, happy with the direction that they chose,” said Verstappen. “I mean, I saw the drawings in Abu Dhabi the last race, and I was like, ‘wow, that’s quite different in a way’. And, they’ve not been conservative, let’s say like that. I think what I like about the team is that, we had a great package, but they took the chance to really go all out, I would say, and try to make it better.
“Of course, time will tell if it’s really, really good, but, yeah, from what I see within the team, everyone is just happy with what they have achieved in the winter. But, then again, we don’t know, we can’t control what the other people do. I think it’s controlled aggressiveness.
“So, yeah, everyone is just happy with what they, it’s not a, it doesn’t seem like it’s a question mark, but they’re not entirely sure, so,” summed up Verstappen. On the personal side too, Verstappen has changed his trainer as they decided in Abu Dhabi. He was quiet on social media but was preparing well behind the scenes.
“I’m working with a new trainer and I have to say everything’s been going really well. That was just a decision that was made last year. My trainer, he wanted to spend more time with the family. It’s a lot of races. I’m happy with what we have done. I feel well prepared, but now I’m also quite happy to finally be able to drive the car instead of just working out all the time,” summed up Verstappen.
