Max Verstappen has been chosen as the best driver for the 2023 F1 season by 19 drivers, with Lewis Hamilton back in second.

F1 has released the first annual list of Top 10 drivers as chosen by the rivals. Usually they reveal the team bosses list but this time they have gone for the drivers choosing their best where Red Bull’s Verstappen is on top once again as expected.

Mercedes’ Hamilton, however, has pipped Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to be back in second after missing out in 2022. Unlike the previous seasons, F1 hasn’t mentioned the points scored by each of the drivers, where there is no indication of a tie too.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso is third, making a jump of three places from 2022 season after ending up fourth in this year’s drivers’ standings. Even McLaren’s Lando Norris has made one place to be fourth after being fifth last year.

Dropping three places is Leclerc to be fifth after an up and down season in 2023, with teammate Carlos Sainz in sixth – making one place from 2022. Williams’ Alexander Albon is the next to make up two places from last year to be seventh.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri – the best rookie – and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly make their first appearance in eighth and ninth, while Red Bull’s Sergio Perez is only 10th after a dismal run despite finishing second in drivers’ standings.

The Mexican did have a hugely inconsistent run to drop by two places from 2022 position. The two drivers who do not make it in unlike last year is Mercedes’ George Russell and Sebastian Vettel, where the latter is natural after having retired.

The drivers who took part in the vote were (minus Lewis Hamilton who never takes part): Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, Valtteri Bottas, Pierre Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg, Charles Leclerc, Kevin Magnussen, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Sergio Perez, Oscar Piastri, Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell, Carlos Sainz, Logan Sargeant, Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, Max Verstappen, Zhou Guanyu.
