Sargeant credits Albon for helping him like no one else would

Logan Sargeant credits Alexander Albon for helping him in a way that no one else will do when becoming F1 teammates.

After Williams decided to not renew Nicholas Latifi’s contract, they were left with multiple options in the F1 driver market. They eventually went for the in-house option of promoting their academy driver Sargeant, who was amid his rookie F2 season with Carlin.

Having secured enough superlicense points, Sargeant just had to finish in the Top 6 of the 2022 F2 standings to secure the license to race in F1. The American was in a comfortable position to do so as becomes the first from the USA to be on the grid since Alexander Rossi.

It was a promotion of sorts for the youngster who still has much to learn after only handful of F1 tests and just the lone F2 season. But Sargeant notes how Albon has helped him in this period like no other competitor would do becoming teammates.

“Promotion was ultimately the goal,” said Sargeant to F1 media. “Williams made it very clear at the start, their show of support, as I was given an F1 test opportunity two months after signing. They gave me everything I’ve needed to have the best season I could possibly have, and be the best driver I could be. I owe them for that.

“Regarding my preparation, I’ve spent a decent bit of time with Albon. He’s been extremely helpful. Everything I’ve asked, he’s been very open in trying to help to the best of his ability. He’s done his best to help me to get ready for this opportunity. Not everyone will do that,” summed up Sargeant, who will be one of the three rookies on the the grid in 2023.

For him, he has done all he could to reach F1 and it will now be gaining experience and showing what he can do on track. “I feel like, at the end of the day, I’ve put in as much hard work as anyone else to reach this point,” said Sargeant.

“And I just have to look at it as ‘prepare the best I possibly can to be the best driver I can possibly be’. And hopefully I can represent well and make them proud. But I don’t think it’s any extra pressure to be honest. I feel like I have high expectations for myself as it is.”
