Regan Smith will drive a NASCAR Craftsman Truck for the first time since 2017. The driver, who currently works as a commentator, will pilot vehicle number 25, a RAM 1500, for the Kaulig Racing team in two scheduled races at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 17 and at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9.

The news was announced while Smith was commenting on the truck race in New Hampshire, and even he was unaware that he would also participate in the Charlotte race.

With 468 appearances in the three national divisions of NASCAR, Smith has not competed since the 2019 season. He finished second in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2014 and has six victories at that level. Additionally, he achieved a win at the highest level of the sport by winning the Southern 500 at Darlington in 2011.

Despite his successes, Smith has never won a truck race, with his best result being a fifth place in 36 starts. Kaulig Racing has used various drivers in its ‘free agency’ truck during this inaugural season with RAM, including names like Tony Stewart, Travis Pastrana, and AJ Allmendinger.

The best result for this team this year was a sixth place, achieved by Allmendinger at Watkins Glen.
