The Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix has been halted following a monumental impact involving local driver Max Verstappen. The race, which was taking place at the Zandvoort circuit, was interrupted after just one lap due to the accident that compromised the safety of the drivers.
At the end of the first lap, in a circuit with wet conditions, Verstappen lost control of his Red Bull when he touched the white line of the final corner, known as Luyendyk curve. The car crashed head-on into the outer wall before crossing the track and coming to a stop inside the circuit.
After the incident, Verstappen confirmed that he was fine and apologized to the team for his premature withdrawal. Fortunately, he was not involved in another accident, as Alpine driver Pierre Gasly was able to avoid him, while his teammate Gabriel Bortoleto also went through a critical moment after controlling a spin in front of Nico Hülkenberg.
All the cars gathered in the pit area were awaiting the still-possible restart of the race. At the time of the incident, Verstappen was in seventh position, after disappointing qualifying practices. The leader, Lando Norris, maintained his lead in a tumultuous start to the race, while Kimi Antonelli, championship leader, passed George Russell to secure second place.
