Valtteri Bottas, Cadillac’s driver in Formula 1, has acknowledged the significant advances of the new team in the first half of their inaugural season, despite some major challenges.
Cadillac entered F1 in 2026 as the eleventh team in the competition, with an experienced driver lineup including Bottas, who previously raced for Mercedes, and Sergio Pérez, a former Red Bull driver. So far, the team has not managed to score points and has faced various reliability issues, as well as retirements in different races. However, Bottas remains optimistic about the recent progress.
The Finnish driver stated: ‘We knew there would be challenges. We have had races that we did not finish due to technical problems, but that is part of the learning process.’ He acknowledges that while the team has faced difficulties, there are reasons for optimism.
‘The important thing is to learn from these incidents and move forward. The team’s speed has improved and the reliability of the car has also increased,’ adds Bottas, who emphasizes that the team’s operations continue to improve. ‘It has been a great journey so far, but there is still much to do.’
Additionally, Bottas mentions that his integration with team members has been a gradual process. ‘When I joined, I only knew a few people. I have had to build relationships with everyone, and that has required time and effort,’ he explains. However, he highlights that team cohesion has strengthened throughout the season.
Recently, Cadillac announced changes to its management structure, replacing Graeme Lowdon as team principal with Marcin Budkowski, a former executive at Alpine, a move that could influence the team’s future performance.
