MotoGP riders return to track training as wait continues for 2020 start

MotoGP

Handful of MotoGP riders have got into track action as part of their training programme amid COVID-19 pandemic as they wait for the 2020 season to start.

While MotoGP has Virtual Race for fans to enjoy, some of the riders are slowly getting on ranches and circuits to train as they wait for the 2020 season to kick-start, which is likely to happen at Jerez on July 17-19 weekend, with another one at the same venue.

With restrictions now easing across the globe for COVID-19 pandemic, MotoGP riders and riders of other related categories like Moto2 and Moto3 have taken to the tracks for practice while the wait for the much-anticipated season start continues.

The first to get back on two wheels was Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi, who rode at his ranch along with Petronas SRT’s Franco Morbidelli, and Moto2’s Luca Marini, all three of did so on a mix of surfaces, with dirt tracking, MX riding, and more.

More over, Ducati riders Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci, as well as Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori and Moto2’s Enea Bastianini and Lorenzo Baldassarri hit the dirt on their MX bikes. Meanwhile, over at Misano, MotoGP engines were revving as well.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro led the pack with Bastianini, Nicolo Bulega (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 and reigning FIM Enel MotoE World Cup winner Matteo Ferrari (Trentino Gresini MotoE) also in attendance with 12 other Italian riders.

All of the safety protocols were been followed as the country still has cases being reported. Elsewhere, more riders saw action at Andorra in Spain where Avintia Racing’s Tito Rabat and Suzuki’s Alex Rins were in action in smaller bikes at a short kart circuit.
