The Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu has expressed his commitment to achieving a MotoGP race’s return to his homeland. In a recent press conference, Razgatlioglu acknowledged that, while it is unlikely there will be time to include an event in 2027, work is already underway on the possibility of a Grand Prix at Istanbul Park for 2028.
This announcement follows the confirmation that the Turkish Grand Prix will be added to the Formula 1 calendar starting in 2027. Razgatlioglu highlights the strategy to leverage this return and enhance the presence of MotoGP in the country.
“Istanbul Park is ready to race right now,” commented the 29-year-old rider. “For next year, we have no opportunity to include it in the calendar, but we are talking about 2028 because there is a possibility to resurrect MotoGP here.” His position at the circuit would not only increase its visibility in the sport but would also attract thousands of fans drawn by its popularity.
Turkey has a history with MotoGP, having hosted three races between 2005 and 2007. In those editions, riders like Marco Melandri and Casey Stoner made memorable moments on the track.
With the prospect of MotoGP’s return, Razgatlioglu has expressed his intention to deliver a great performance if this event is confirmed. “If MotoGP comes back to Istanbul Park, I need to deliver an unforgettable result. That’s the great pressure I carry,” the rider concluded, revealing the weight it represents for him to have the opportunity to compete in front of his audience.
