Max Verstappen has exceeded his own expectations by completing the karting challenge in Silverstone, achieving an impressive time against 100 competitors. The event, organized by Red Bull, took place this Wednesday and pitted the world champion against 100 amateur karters, including content creators, motorsport professionals, and athletes.
The Dutch driver started from the back of the grid and aimed to overtake all his rivals in a maximum of 30 laps on a specially designed track. This included sections of the Silverstone circuit, such as Brooklands.
Despite the challenge, Verstappen only needed 14 laps, meaning 37 minutes, to complete the task. His impressive race start allowed him to eliminate 64 rivals in the first lap and, completely, 84 in just five laps.
The Red Bull driver, who appeared satisfied, commented: ‘When I headed to the grid and saw from where I had to start, it seemed very far. But after the first lap, I thought I was doing well.’ He added that the strategy during the first two laps was key to achieving the best possible result.
From the moment the lights went out, the difference in reaction between a Formula 1 driver and a regular driver became evident, overtaking a dozen competitors even before the race began.
Verstappen has participated in many of these challenges organized by Red Bull since joining the team in 2016, and he has not hesitated to suggest competing against 200 karters in the future.
