The MotoGP category has announced a new two-year contract with Silverstone, thus ensuring the presence of the British Grand Prix on the calendar until, at least, 2028.
This news has been revealed on the eve of this year’s British round of MotoGP, marking the start of the second half of the 2026 season.
Although MotoGP has not managed to replicate the recent success of Formula 1 at Silverstone, the United Kingdom remains a key market for the championship. According to the competition, the agreement “provides a solid foundation to continue investing in the long-term success” of the event, which attracted nearly 100,000 spectators last year.
To increase the popularity of this year’s event, MotoGP organized a viewing party in London during the Dutch Grand Prix, and the official press conference before the British GP has also been moved to the capital.
Stuart Pringle, CEO of Silverstone, stated: “This extension underlines our commitment to two-wheel racing. It’s not just about signing a contract; it’s about reaffirming our vision. Silverstone has proven its ability to host the highest level of motorsport in the world, from MotoGP to Formula 1 and the FIA World Endurance Championship.”
The circuit returned to host MotoGP in 2010, at a time when significant investment was made in the infrastructure, including the construction of the new “Silverstone Wing” complex.
Since then, the circuit has become an annual event on the calendar, despite doubts about its future, with only two races canceled, in 2018 and 2020, for external factors.
The motorcycle world championship visited Silverstone for the first time in 1977, marking the championship’s first foray onto the British continent, after the traditional Isle of Man TT race.
After a period at Donington Park that began in 1987, Silverstone regained the British Grand Prix at the beginning of the last decade.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of the MotoGP group, recalled: “The United Kingdom has a rich heritage in motorcycle racing and remains one of the most important markets for MotoGP. Since our return to Silverstone in 2010, we have built a strong partnership and delivered unforgettable British Grand Prix weekends.”
The renewed contract allows for continued investments in the event, as well as strengthening MotoGP’s presence in the United Kingdom, creating more value for fans, teams, partners, and promoters in the coming years.
The calendar for the 2027 season has not yet been published, but MotoGP has confirmed that next year’s British Grand Prix will once again take place in August.
